Dynamics GP 10/2010 : Login very slow after installing SP5

Hi there,

Many experienced a torturous delay when login to GP after installing SP5 of GP10 with Analytical Accounting module.The workaround by Microsoft for this issue till the hotfix is launched is given below.

A Microsoft SQL Server job can be created to remove the records from the SY07110 table for the Dynamics Online Services product as a workaround until the resolution is released. The Microsoft SQL Server job can be scheduled to run every morning and/or at other times during the day to remove the records

1. Open the SQL Server Management Studio.
2. Expand the SQL Server Agent.
3. Right-click Jobs and click New Job.
4. Enter a name for the job.
5. Under the Select a page area at the left, click Steps.
6. Click New.
7. Enter a Step Name such as "Remove SY07110".
8. Click to select DYNAMICS as the database.
9. Copy the following statement into the Command area.

delete DYNAMICS..SY07110 where PRODID = 6499

10. Click OK.
11. In the Select a page area, click Schedules.
12. Click New.
13. Enter a Name.
14. Click to select Daily under the Frequency area.
15. In the Daily Frequency area, enter a time early in the morning or if you would like to run this more times throughout the day click to select the Occurs Every option and set that option.
16. Click OK.
17. Click OK.
18. Right-click the job to verify it runs successfully....

Trial Balance Detail report is out of balance in GL

One of the most common problem you come across while using Multicurrency module is the Detailed Trial Balance report in GL being out of balance.Microsoft has already published an automated solution for this issue in the partnersource/customersource.

Here is the excerpt from the KB document to overcome this issue.

Step 1. First, open the Trial Balance Report Options window for the Detailed Trial Balance Report by selecting the report option and click the Modify button.

a. In the Include section, make sure the checkbox for Unit Accounts is not marked.

b. In the Include section, make sure the checkbox for Inactive Accounts is marked.

c. Print the report again.

Step 2. If the Detailed Trail Balance Report is still unbalanced, then you will need to identify the GL transaction that is causing the difference. To do this, use one of the methods below:

Method #1: Use SQL scripts

a. Use the appropriate step below to open SQL Server Management Studio:

• If you use SQL Server 2000, start SQL Query Analyzer. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.

• If you use Microsoft SQL Server 2005, start SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then clickSQL Server Management Studio.

• If you use Microsoft SQL Server 2008, start SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and then clickSQL Server Management Studio.

b. Copy the below script in to a query window and execute against the company database to identify unbalanced journal entries.

select JRNENTRY, sum(DEBITAMT) - sum(CRDTAMNT) from GL20000, GL00100 where ACCTTYPE = 1 group by JRNENTRY having sum(DEBITAMT) - sum(CRDTAMNT) <> 0

Method #2: Use the automated solution for "General Ledger Out of Balance" to find the unbalanced journal entries. This solution can be found using the link below to KB 935384.

Step 3. Once the unbalanced journal entry has been identified, you can correct the journal entry by setting up a dummy account in General Ledger to use as your offsetting account to key a journal entry. When finished, you can delete the side of the journal entry booked to the dummy account and then remove the dummy account to leave a one-sided entry to balance the Detailed Trial Balanced Report. To do this, follow the steps in KB 865712 on how to create a one-sided journal entry to balance out the difference.

Recommended Maintenance with Microsoft SQL Server for Microsoft Dynamics GP Databases

Database maintenance helps keep the inner workings of Microsoft SQL Server and the Microsoft Dynamics GP databases running at their peak level. We recommend that you use the following SQL Server maintenance procedures:

Use database consistency check commands
Update statistics
Recompile stored procedures

We recommend that you perform these maintenance procedures weekly for the DYNAMICS database and all company databases. However, you can vary this frequency based on your environment and the activity each database receives. We also recommend that you stagger these maintenance procedures throughout the week to handle lots of data.

Note Before you follow the instructions in this article, make sure that you have a complete backup copy of the database that you can restore if a problem occurs.

Database consistency check commands

You can run database consistency check (DBCC) commands manually with SQL Server through SQL Query Analyzer or SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, follow these steps:

If you use Microsoft SQL Server 2000, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.

If you use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
In SQL Query Analyzer or SQL Server Management Studio, run one or more of the following DBCC commands:
- DBCC CHECKCATALOG (DBNAME)
  When you use this statement, replace DBNAME with the name of your database, such as DYNAMICS.
  
  Note DBCC CHECKCATALOG is included in DBCC CHECKDB for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later.
- DBCC CHECKDB (DBNAME)
  When you use this statement, replace DBNAME with the name of your database, such as DYNAMICS.
  
  You can schedule this command within SQL Server Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio so that the maintenance process runs automatically.
- DBCC DBREINDEX (TableName)
  When you use this statement, replace TableName with the name of the table, such as GL00100.
  
  The DBCC DBREINDEX command can also be executed manually against all tables at the same time by using the Reindex.sql script. You can find the Reindex.sql script in the default path for Microsoft Dynamics GP as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\SQL\Utility\0 folder.
  
  You can also schedule this command within SQL Server Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio so that the maintenance process runs automatically.

Update Statistics
There are several ways for you to run the update statistics procedure.

You can update statistics by running the UpdatSta.sql script with Microsoft SQL Server by using SQL Query Analyzer or SQL Server Management Studio. You can find the UpdatSta.sql script in the default path for Microsoft Dynamics GP as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\SQL\Utility\0 folder.
You can run the update statistics process within Microsoft Dynamics GP. To do this, follow these steps:
1. On the File menu, point to Maintenance, and then click SQL.
2. Select a database from the Database box and product for Product box.
3. Select all the tables for that database by pressing CTRL+A within the table listing.
4. Click Update Statistics, and then click Process.
You can configure SQL Server to run the update statistics process automatically within SQL Server Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, right-click your database, click Properties, clickOptions, and then click to select Auto Create Statistics and Auto Update Statistics.
You can schedule the update statistics process on a recurring basis within Database Maintenance Plans.

Recompile Stored Procedures
There are several ways for you to recompile stored procedures.

You can recompile stored procedures by running the Recomp.sql script with Microsoft SQL Server by using SQL Query Analyzer or SQL Server Management Studio. You can find the Recomp.sql script in the default path for Microsoft Dynamics GP as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\SQL\Utility\0 folder.
You can also recompile stored procedures within Microsoft Dynamics GP. To do this, follow these steps:
1. On the File menu, point to Maintenance, and then click SQL.
2. Select a database from the Database box and product for Product box.
3. Select all the tables for that database by pressing CTRL+A within the table listing.
4. Click Recompile, and then click Process.
You can recompile stored procedures by scheduling the sp_recompile procedure by using SQL Server Agent Jobs. For more information about steps to create a job within SQL Server Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio, see SQL Server Books Online. DBCC CHECKCATALOG: Examines the consistency in system tables and between system tables. This command checks data pages and tables in the specified database for errors.

Note DBCC CHECKCATALOG is included in DBCC CHECKDB for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later.
DBCC CHECKDB: Examines the allocation and structural integrity of all the objects in the specified database.
DBCC DBREINDEX: Rebuilds all indexes. This command will help reduce page splitting and will improve data modification performance.
Update statistics: Updates the query optimizer with distribution information about key values of indexes. This enables the query optimizer to make efficient decisions.
Recompile stored procedures: Recompiles the queries and optimizes the triggers used by stored procedures. This recompile procedure updates database statistics and optimization information that can become outdated with changes to the database.

A simple yet lifesaving script discovered by Patrick Roth on smartlist export to Excel works wonders..This indeed brightened up many financial officers faces who use excel as their main analysis tool.

The magic script is to add the below comment in the dex.ini file.

SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport=TRUE

Partick.. you ROCK!!

Apart from speed, there is a small drawback on language translation during the export.When exported to Excel in this method, Arabic characters are NOT converted thus displaying in unreadable format.Hope there is a workaround solution for this drawback..

Sorry guys for long silence in my blogsphere..There had been too many action packed events that kept me off the active Dynamics World.. Anyways. the good news is.. im back.. live and kickin..

There had been a major career move that got myself into the Government Defense sector of Bahrain..Currently heading the implementation of Dynamics GP 10 with BP and SRS .

Also one of the ecstatic moment was that i was blessed with a son - Hamdhan on 16th December.

I wish every one a Happy and prosperous New Year!!
